Agate Creek Thundereggs - Small (each)

Thundereggs, agate formations made in volcanos, got their name from ancient men who believed the rocks fell from the sky. The rocks are formed when lava cools around a gas bubble leaving a hole in the center of the rock that is then filled with different mineral solutions making many varied and beautiful creations when the Thunderegg is split! Thundereggs found in Queensland's Agate Creek are believed to be around 120 million years old!

Deep in the outback of Far North Queensland, the Agate Creek Fossicking Area is a treasure hunter's paradise. This remote, world-famous site produces extraordinary thundereggs. Hidden inside rough volcanic boulders are striking, colourful banded agates and sparkling quartz crystals, making every rock cracked open a unique discovery. Not sure how to get there? See attached photos and maps. Heading north from the camp ground, the turn off is about 300metres up the road. The escarpment first on the right on the road back to Forsayth (from the camping ground gate). Climb to the saddle and walk the hill right to the escarpment. Can't miss the digs...
